Active Care - Employee Assistance Programme

Active Care offers clients the ability to benefit from a truly interventional Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), integrating proactive Occupational Health engagement in Stress related absence cases, with one of the most comprehensive Employee Assistance Programmes available in corporate UK. .

Many traditional Employee Assistance Programmes struggle to add value to the client (in terms of reducing absence or demonstrating a clear Duty of Care) simply because they are not well promoted or utilised. As a result the employee does not receive the key support from this valuable service.

There is no doubt that an Employee Assistance Programme can yield an amazing Return on Investment - but as a proposition it needs to be modified and refined in order to make the transition in to a highly effective Risk Management Tool.

In the past an Employee Assistance Programme has always been reliant on the employee making contact (albeit with a Manager making the initial contact). This is a very passive / reactive dynamic and because the Management Information is generic, there is no way that the employer can even be sure that the service has been utilised by an employee (even if they are absent and on long term sick, due to stress).

Active Care is very different. It merges Occupational Health with an Employee Assistance Programme, and clients have already experienced some staggering results:

  • Return to work , 4 days after our engagement for an employee who had been absent for 9 weeks due to stress 
  • Return to Work, 9 days after our engagement for an employee who had been absent with work related stress for a staggering 22 weeks 

How It Works

If an employee is signed off work with a Mental Health condition for 21 days or more, then the Employer contacts Health Assured, under the Employee Assistance Programme. The employee signs a standard Consent Form for an Independent Medical Opinion and once this is received we follow a robust and empathic care pathway:

  • An Occupational Health Nurse (also a trained counselling supervisor) will contact the employee and discuss the circumstances, proposed treatment plan and absence - offering support and recapping the support available from the Employee Assistance Programme.
  • If clinically appropriate the employee is referred to one of 500 Occupational Health Physicians around the country who consult with patients on behalf of Health Assured.
  • Full reports are produced and peer reviewed by our own physicians.  The Medical Opinion and HR Consultancy support is provided.
  • Legal Advice and indemnity of up to £100,000 is provided to the employer, supporting any legal advice given.
  • The employee is fully supported.
