Pre-Commencement Medicals

Health Assured provides a comprehensive Pre-Commencement Medical facility which is compliant with the Equality Act 2010, providing a proactive risk management tool for clients, allowing the employer to identify health issues that may prevent a candidate from performing the duties, expected in their role. It is a requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the employer is aware of an employee's disability and to ensure that appropriate adjustments are made to the working environment.

Access to our sophisticated, easy to use Web-based Pre-Commencement Questionnaire, is included free of charge within the Health Assured EAP and EAP Plus Employee Assistance Programmes, as is available 24 hours a day.

Every Questionnaire is thoroughly reviewed by an experienced and qualified OH professional , and if necessary one of our qualified OH clinicians will contact the individual in order to fully explore any emerging clinical issues in more depth - in 96% of cases, you will receive a "Fit Note" on the same day that the questionnaire is completed and submitted. It takes approximately 5 minutes for a candidate to complete the form and is a convenient, and cost effective way of meeting your legal requirements, and managing absence.

As a result of the questionnaire being completed, Health Assured will issue of of the following recommendations:

  • Fit For Work
  • Fit For Work, subject to restrictions - a report of reasonable adjustments recommended.
  • Not Fit, based on the information provided. Health Assured will advise you of this outcome immediately. If a face to face consultation is recommended (or GP Report), we will seek written confirmation to proceed, prior to any costs being incurred. In order to comply with the Data Protection Act, Health Assured will obtain the necessary consent from the candidate, in order to confirm the exact nature of the medical condition (driving the decision not to pass the individual Fit). If consent is not forthcoming, Health Assured Ltd will declare the individual as unfit, without any explanation.

Pre-Commencement Screening will benefitemployers in many ways:

  • Ensure compliance with The Equality Act 2010, identifying any reasonable adjustments or restrictions that may be necessary, prior to the individual commencing their employment (screening completed after Job Offer).
  • Ensures the matching of the employee to a suitable job function.
  • Provides a robust record and baseline audit of the candidate's health status, at the point of joining the organisation.
  • Removes the onus from Employer, when having to deliver negative feed back based on Health grounds to the employee
  • Demonstartes efficiency of the Employer to the employee.
  • Provides an accurate assessment of the employee's fitness in respect to the specific job requirements, with reference to stressful working environments, manual handling, repetitive tasks and home working

Health Assured Ltd, is also able to provide a robust Paper based solution, although an additional charge is made for this element.

Whilst the Web Based Questionnaires are included Free of Charge within the Health Assured EAPs, the service is also available on an ad-hoc basis, at highly competitive rates.
